Ultimate Collection Rocks!!! Watch for defective disc, no problem...
I had the original Zoo Tycoon 2, and was looking to buy one or two of the expansion packs. While researching my options, I found this Ultimate Collection for about the same price as two of the expansions (there are four). So, I just decided to buy The Ultimate Collection. I can't believe how much content is added with each expansion. The best game I've ever had!
I love this game. It is so much fun. First of all there are three different modes, free form where you have an unlimited budget and don't have to unlock anything besides the things campaign mode and challenge mode unlocks, challenge mode where you can do challenges like taking photos and making new exhibits to earn prizes that you unlock, and campaign mode which is basically a story mode where you have to complete all the scenorinos in that campaign and unlock prizes. There are many animals too. I especially like the african wild dogs and meerkats. It has many popular animals like pandas and some probably never heard of ones too like the short-finned pilot whale. There are also many dinosaur species but I usually get all tangled up in the names and can't remember them. There is also a "zoopedia" which is basically an encyclopedia that has lots of imformation about the plants and animal species you can get. For instance if I never had this game I wouldn't know that to communicate with...

Lots of Improvement
I was going to resist getting Zoo Tycoon 2, having recently being disappointed by the update of Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (which is NOT an improvement). I am, however, a simulation/strategy game addict--and I am happy to report that I don't regret giving in to the impulse to buy Zoo Tycoon 2. The original version of this game was not one of my favorites. I found changing little squares of landscape and mending fences rather tedious for long term game play, not to mention only having income from entrance fees and food/drinks keeping my bank account in a permanent decline, and visitors loosing interest in the exhibits too quickly. WHY THIS VERSION IS BETTER: * 3D Animation - I tend not to care much about graphics in general, however these graphics are quite well done, and you can zoom in quite close to observe the animals. This game is Awesome...
I love Zoo Tycoon 2. I played the original & the expansions & loved them as well but Zoo Tycoon 2 is so much better. I really like the ability to build diagonically. The zoo looks much better with this ability. I also find it really neat that you can go into Zoo Guest Mode which allows you to walk throug the zoo & see what everything looks like from the guest's point of view. The Photo Safari Mode is neat also. It allows you to go into the exhibits & take really good pictures of the animals. Did I mention that the animals are a lot more realistic & easier to please? This game is really awesome. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Fun Game
I love "tycoon" games of all sorts. Zoo tycoon 2 and its expansion packs are great and most of the scenerios are fun (if not a little time consuming). You can zoom in and walk around the zoo like a guest as well as save yourself some money (in the game of course) by doing the zookeeper and maintenance tasks yourself. This is a great, educational game for kids. They'll learn about many different animals and conservation efforts. It's also the sort of game that you could sit down and play with your kids.. help them out with planning and ideas and read about the different animals with them. I'm also happy to see that Microsoft is donating money from the sales of this game to the World Wildlife Fund.. all the more reason to buy it :)

Better than expected
As a huge fan of all things zoo and animal, I took a gamble on this game in hopes of reigniting my childhood passions. I was pleasantly surprised to find Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals was actually a lot of fun for a kids game. At my age it isn't really a challenge at all, but the fanciful nature of the gaming system and antics of the animals are fun to watch and unfold as you build your dream zoo. I was impressed to notice that both male and female animals have different looks, and some of the dinosaurs even have feathers. Someone was doing their research at Microsoft. I'd definitely recommend this game for younger kids who want to learn more about extinct animals and anyone else who just loves animals.

its ok/fun
I actually liked zoo tycoon 1 better than zoo tycoon 2, simply becuase it had more content. However, the expansion packs like endangered species and african advewnture add to it. Of all the expansion packs i looked forward to the extinct animals the most. It is good they have both dinosaurs and other extinct animals, however i wish they would have more dinosaurs and a larger variety. They were all kindof similar. However, this game is still fun, and easy if you stick to freeform games, for the younger players. The minigames are a great addition, especially being able to chase escaped dinos yourself. I think the graphics need to be updated, but it is still fun to walk around (or drive in a jeep) next to dinosaurs

Best zoo ever!
I love zoo tycoon and couldn't wait for this game to come out I was so excited when I got it. It's a ton of fun-but the prices for the animals are a bit out of proportion ( 3,000 dollars for a dodo?) But they soon pay for themselves in donations, or you can make them for free at the extinct research lab. It's also fun to take care of them and overall have them at your zoo. Another big plus is the entertainers that eliminate the guest amuzement issue. It's a great game and any zoo tycoon 2 fan needs to get it.

Too Much Fun
I bought this for my granddaughters, ages 9 and 8. They're a tad precocious, a friend's 11-year-old son liked the game and recommended it, and also my son (the girls' father) took the demo for a "test drive." So I was expecting my grandgirls to like it, but ... they LOVED IT! I couldn't get them to play anything else!! My son homeschools the girls, and I could see he liked the idea of being able to "educate" them about how to optimize their zoo, and the girls responded well to his advice. Plus, they exercised an enormous amount of creativity in the way they designed and maintained their zoos. Since they and their father had so much fun playing the game, I had to try it. Great game! (And how to find the bonus strategy guide)
I played this for the first time some seven-eight years ago and it's still just as fun today! Even though it's an older game it works very well on my XP. This pack includes not only Zoo Tycoon, Marine Mania and Dinosaur Digs, but it also includes several other extra features I thought I should mention: -Endangered Species Theme Pack: 12 new, rare animals such as komodo dragon, wild horse and yetti (I think. Though in truth I'm not sure exactly how the yetti got into my zoo. It also includes 40 new objects and three bonus scenarios. This is installed when you install the game for the first time, and all the new animals will automatically be in your zoo. -Sybex Strategy guide: This is a huge guide in PDF format filled with TONS of information packed into it's 200+ pages. Classic Game
Zoo Tycoon is a classic game that any one at any age can enjoy playing. In it, you must build and manage a zoo. Obviously. However, it is fun and educational at the same time. I enjoy unleashing animals at guests. Just make sure to save your zoo before you do it. With three zoo games in one, this is probably the best version of Zoo Tycoon ever made. I prefer the complete collection over Zoo Tycoon 2, or any of it's expansion packs. You will not regret buying this wonderful game.

Love it...
I'm a huge fan of Zoo Tycoon & I've bought all the expansions. I absolutely couldn't wait for Marine Mania because that was my favorite in the original Zoo Tycoon. It was well worth the wait. Of course I'd like more scenarios but with the 9 additional that's what I've come to expect out of expansions. This expansion features has 20 marine animals (whales, dolphins, rays, sharks, otters & then some) + the ability to train & put on shows with some of the animals. The shows are pretty neat & it's fun to be able to swim with the animals. With the plants & rocks in the tank it looks pretty realistic. when you're in the tanks. If you are a fan of Zoo Tycoon 2 I'm sure you'd love this expansion pack. Buy it!!!

Wonderful...Best Yet
Marine Mania is the best expansion pack out. The graphics are wonderful. I have learned a lot about marine animals since I got it. -Add 20 beautiful marine animals (mammals, fish, reptiles). -The game also comes with a useful tool-- the eyedropper. It is used to easily duplicate objects. - Now the trees, bushes, and grasses now sway with the add of the expansion; making it look even more realistic as you tour your zoo. You can now go under water in the ponds, lakes or tanks you construct. Even add koi to ponds. - Train orcas, dolphins, seals and more to make incredible shows to wow your guests. However...I would recomend it be a tad more realistic in some ways (carrots cost $50 ea., animals get stuck in the ground). The game itself should be about $20 (that's how much I got it for on sale). Do not get it if you don't have a NEW computer. Older ones can't handle the game. Overall I give this game...

It doesn't get better than this
Zoo Tycoon 2: Marine Mania is probably the best expansion yet. I enjoyed the first Zoo Tycoon and its expansions and when Zoo Tycoon 2 came out, I enjoyed it even more. Now you can have marine animals and that was what fans were campaigning for. You can now train dolphins and other animals yourself (although it gets harder). If you find it too hard, you can hire a trainer to do it for you. All in all, it's a great game and a must buy.

An 8-Year-Old's Opinion
My 8-year-old got this game about a month ago. We checked here for reviews before buying, but at that time, there weren't any. Therefore, she asked if she could provide one now to help other kids decide whether to buy the game. So here's her opinion, as dictated to me: "I would give this game 8 stars if I could. For me, it took about one day to figure out. When you really get to learn it, it's really, really fun -- not too easy, not too hard. You get to take care of a lot of animals, have restaurants, bathrooms, and you just get to create your zoo. You can make as much money as you want. You want to make all the visitors happy. If you have a lot of animals, you can get medals. I haven't gotten the dolphins yet." Now a note from me: Even though she said she figured it out in a day, I can tell from the game's description and from the other reviewer's comments that she has *not* figured it all out yet -- which is good in a $[...] game! Freeform Game Players May Prefer the Original Zoo Tycoon for the DS
I should explain that I'm over 50, have not yet played any version of Zoo Tycoon on a PC, but have played the orginal Zoo Tycoon for the DS in freeform mode only, as I prefer designing a custom-made zoo with lots of attention to the landscaping. In this context, I found Zoo Tycoon 2 more limiting: > The scenery items on offer are less attractive, and a player is limited severely as to the number allowed per game (about 30). The game doesn't warn you that you're approaching a limit; it merely locks up all scenery items when you're there. Ok, if you don't have the PC version
Since I love the PC version of this game, I thought I'd try it on DS so I could take it with me or just play in bed instead of sitting on the computer. That was a mistake. It does not have the detail of the PC version, I can hardly make any money on the restaurants and shops and at least the first few scenarios were too easy. If you've played this game before, it's not worth it, but if you're new to Tycoon games it might be a good place to start since it's pretty simple to pick up.
