Premium quality, premium taste.
In fact, in Japan these rice would cost about $50. But before you think most California short grain is the same, you need to try this or koshihikari. If you don't want to spend $30 (locally sell here for around $25) then some stores sell them in small container for under $10.What's different about tamanishiki, koshihikari and other popular Japanese premium rice? The grain is even shorter than regular short grain rice people are used to in the USA. The texture is more 'plump' while the rice glitters with a very natural sweetness you don't normally get with regular American short-grain. It has a very subtle bite on the outer layer.WASH your rice. I don't know why this isn't stressed in the bag anywhere. It's a standard procedure to wash the rice with cold water 3-4 times then fill the bowl and let the rice sit for 20 minutes. If you're using a rice cooker you'll know this 20-minute wait time makes a difference. I'll usually dump the water again and fill...

best japanese rice ever
I've been making/eating Japanese rice for over twenty years. Having lived in NYC most of my life there were many places to source fine Japanese goods so I've been a little spoiled by access to the best ingredients; having moved out west a couple of years ago sometimes ingredients are harder to find. There were no reviews on this rice on the day I purchased it and I'm so glad I took a chance; this is hands down the best Japanese rice I have had in a very, very long time. Unusually fine short grain. I made a batch the first night it arrived intending to pair it with some leftover chicken curry. When the rice was done, I went to take a taste and sweet Jesus!, was that good. Firm bite yet tender yield. A bare hint of sweetness. In a word - delicate. Another taste, then a bowl. Needed not a drop of shoyu or anything - naked perfection. I wound up forgetting all about the curry.

The perfect rice for making sushi
Kokuho Rose is a variety of medium-grained rice developed and grown in California by Koda Farms. It is very similar to Japanese rice (japonica), which is short-grained and fat. Introduced to the American market in 1963, it is well-suited for Japanese cuisine because it's very sticky and glutinous, having the same taste and texture as Japanese rice. It is a very popular choice for making sushi because it is relatively easy to find and inexpensive. To make sushi rice, the kernels have to be washed until the water is clear, then steamed. I use an electric rice cooker like , but you can get fancier ones that cost upwards of $100. Cooked perfectly, the grains are firm, slightly elastic and have a shiny, pearl-like luster. You should be able to find this at your local Asian...

Exceptional Rice!
I've tasted different rice varieties and this one is incomparable in taste and texture. Some of you may be skeptical but this special variety is short and plump but has a nice shine and not brittle when it is steamed. Also the texture is smooth as you eat it along with your favorite foods. Excellent for sushi. People who like their cooked rice a bit glutinuous will love this.

Great for Sushi
This was recommended on a Sushi making site and I can see why. The difference in the Sushi from last time to this time was tremendous, and the only difference was the rice that I used.

Best Rice on the Market
RiceSelect Sushi Rice is the best on the market. Easy to prepare, never fails in the rice cooker. The secret is in the washing....you have to do it. This is a light fluffy sweet rice, excellant with fish, seafood and any meat. I like to add raisins, butter, sugar and cinnamon for a late nite treat with the left overs.

makes great sushi
I have used this rice to make sushi several times, and it always works great, though I usually have to cook it longer than the instructions say. In any case, the texture is perfect and sticky, and making sushi is well worth the effort--it's a crowd pleaser, as well as a fun thing to try with friends. Don't forget the rice vinegar!

My favorite rice!
This is one of my favorite rices. Very pleasant texture and taste. Tastes great steamed with a little salt, rice vinegar, and seaseme seed oil. By purchasing it through Amazon, I actually save money. It's about $6.79 each at my local grocery store (California). I love the auto ship feature.

Hard to review as it is just simple medium grain rice. Much better than generic brands but not the best I have tried. Still good enough to be worth 5/5.

Where Can I buy Short Grain Rice

Quinoa has more than twice the lysine of corn, rice, wheat, and several other grains, and substantially more lysine than spelt and barley. White short-grain rice is only 6. The most common grains (wheat, rice, barley, oats) all need to be hulled before they can be eaten. Keep in mind that refined grains (white rice, white flour, etc. So whereas spelt and oats have more total protein than quinoa, when we consider the total amount of lysine, — the most important essential amino acid for anyone with a grain-based diet — quinoa excels above other grains. Rice, brown, long-grain, raw: 7. Quinoa and amaranth are each high in total protein, high in lysine as a percent of total protein, and high in lysine per 100 grams of food. You can easily see from the above list of protein content that several other grains have a total protein in the same range as quinoa. For seed sources of quinoa, you can just use the quinoa that you buy in the store. You might continue to buy some food items, especially foods that you can’t easily produce or store (milk, eggs, meat, poultry, fish). But in terms of nutrition and its use in meals, quinoa is essentially a type of grain. By comparison, quinoa and amaranth are always whole grain, as there is no bran layer to remove. But the saponins in quinoa protect this healthy grain from a wide range of pests. Only oats and amaranth are close to quinoa in terms of both total protein and total lysine. Quinoa is also more nutritious than most other grains. You simply thresh the plant (separate the grain from the rest of the plant), and clean away any leaves and other parts of the plant.

(GRAIN/ BEAN/ GREEN) WITH YOUR FAVORITE DRESSING Grains : Growing up my knowledge of whole grains was limited to rice, barley and oats. For heartier grains like farro and wild rice, soak overnight and cook them as you would pasta: with more salt and water that you will strain when the grains are done and begin to split. GRAINS WITH GLUTEN Wild Rice – aquatic grass, nutty flavor. Ever wonder why you always see rice paired with beans. This works for all types of brown rice, quinoa and millet. COOKING GRAINS: 1 cup grain to 1 ¾ cups water, plus a pinch of salt. Soaking grains over night, prior to cooking them, makes them easier for your body to digest and cuts the requires half the cooking time. This is why a grain, plus a bean and a green (vegetable), paired with your favorite dressing, or a simple drizzle of olive oil, makes a great meal. My favorite meals are those composed of a combination of salads: a grain, a bean and a green or other vegetable. GBG : Grains, combined with beans, create a complete protein. There are millions of people who avoid eating gluten (the protein in wheat and related grains) because their bodies have a difficult time digesting it and as a result makes them feel terrible.
