*Original Power 90 review*Let me first say that i'm one of the people that tried the regular Power 90 workout videos at first. I was pretty much a couch potato who would work out once in a while, and then just stop completely for several months. Power 90 is a decent workout for people who are trying to get back into shape who want to get into a mediocre level of fitness; or just maintain an average body.Pros for Power 90:1.)A good smooth start for beginners. Why did I spend all those years in the gym?
There's so many positive things to say about this product it's hard to know where to begin. I'll try to avoid covering too much familiar ground of the other reviews. So let's start by saying this: It absolutely works. What's great about this program is that it addresses ALL your fitness needs. Whereas most workout videos/programs tend to focus on either strength training or cardio or flexibility or target specific areas, P90X does it all. Just be aware that you'll have to invest in a pull up bar (although alternatives are given for substituting power bands, but nothing beats the bar), some dumbells or power bands (the bands work fine if you're looking to tone up or travel with them, but for people really looking to do some work and get their Bruce Lee on, dumbells are a must), a yoga mat, possibly some push-up stands (they're worth it, or you can just use your dumbells if you have the kind shaped like a hex or a square), and a heart-rate monitor isn't bad either. Yes, it is like the informercial says
This product is what I expected from the infomercial - the infomercial is a good representation of what you'll get. The DVDs are good, come in a small case (no excess packaging to exaggerate or compensate for lack of real product). The accompanying written materials are good too.However, I found that I wasn't quite in shape enough when P90X arrived to use it well. I went back and bought Tony Horton's "Power Half Hour" and used that for a few weeks first - had to wake up some muscles I've let go dormant. I've been in good shape most of my life, but kind of got lazy lately - I needed to get a basic foundation before I could jump into the incredible workouts he provides.Make no mistake; this is a commitment. The workouts are long, and hard, but they are engaging. No geeky cheesy cheerleader pep talks in the DVD, and no arrogant gym rat jerks either. great, but you get what you put into it
bought this after seeing the P90X program on TV and researching it was recommened that beginners or folks out of shape should do the power 90 program first.I took the advice and got the Power 90 program.Tony is a great trainer and the first few times you are really tired, but you get used to the program after a couple weeks and that is when you can really push it. If you don't push yourself then you will not see results as fast.I have just completed 45 days and I went from being 6'1" and 235 (obese) to a built (gained a lot of upper body muscle) 215 and went from a large 38 pant size (really should have been 40) to a 35. I am pumped and working out is fun again! I took a good look at myself about a year ago, and didn't like what I saw. I was embarrassed to wear most of my clothes; taking my shirt off at the beach was not going to happen--period. X2 Core
The core is your body's foundation: the point where all movement begins. By working your core using instability, you force your body to fire both its prime mover and stabilizer muscles in harmony. As you master this routine, all of your movement patterns will improve.

Plyocide
Combines traditional explosive movements with mind and coordination drills to increase not only your speed and endurance, but your entire mind/body connection, as well. Don't do this one more than once per week.

X2 Recovery + Mobility

Good and Bad
Having worked through P90X and P90X+, P90X2 falls somewhere in between. There are some great points about P90X2 and some very bad--even dangerous--points about P90X2. I loved P90X and still think it's the best exercise program on the market. P90X+ was just a marketing program designed to sell more gear and videos, and it quickly died. Like P90X+, P90X2 is very much a marketing program designed to sell a lot of overpriced fitness equipment. In spite of what they advertise about the hotel workout, you cannot do P90X2 without a lot of gear. You need 3-4 medicine balls of various sizes (actually a couple of large ones, for balance purposes, as well as smaller ones for some lifting), and they need to be firm enough to support your weight. So the cheapie plastic ones won't do. Practically every exercise uses a stability ball, so that's a must have. You also need a lot of dumbbells. Bands are problematic, since it's hard to use a band on a stability ball. I'm not convinced the foam roller...

Exactly what they promise
First off, I do agree with the previous reviewer that there are certain elements missing in this series. The production quality seems to have taken a hit and the overall feel isn't at grand or dynamic as the first group. BUT. . .These new workouts are more intense and will push you beyond the originals. They are more complicated than the previous series. But the moves in this system are no joke. The abs/core disc is worth the price of admission alone. I got these before I finished going through the classic a second time, so I substituted the new Kenpo for the old one in the "classic" timeline. The new one is much better as it keeps the pacing up where the first one tended to slow down towards the end. The full body is a great addition. The best part I've found is the mixing and matching of the old series and the new. Tony, what happened to you? A notch below the original
I did the entire P90X and loved/hated every moment of it. It's the best workout program on the market. What makes it different is the workouts, the schedule, the nutrition, but really what REALLY makes it different is Tony Horton's personality. He was a great motivation in P90X. Engaging, humorous, and working his butt off with the rest of them. In the new P90X+, not so much. I think he tried to push the extreme concept too far and it fell flat with me. First, the crew of 4 people is reduced to 2. Second, Tony hardly does anything anymore. Third, he seemed to have lost his humor and free spirit. Lastly, the workouts are getting so complex and convoluted, it's hard to keep up. What happened? I think he tried to make it a trilogy and like many before him should have quit when he was ahead. I went for a second round of P90X instead and I love Tony again. BTW, a tracking spreadsheet really makes a difference if you plan on going through the 90 day program. I received this last week and have completed all of the workouts. Some critism of two DVD's from another reviewing is noted and while it could have fit on one DVD, how can he charge so much for one, so he put it on two. Bad move, but he's making money. Speaking of which, the price is hefty, but WELL WORTH IT. Yes he stands around and talks, because HE IS YOUR PERSONAL TRAINER with this. Individual training sessions in a gym can cost up to $80/hour. He walks you through and explains the moves instead of doing them so you know you are doing them right. He's fit as can be and focuses his attention on you so you can get the same results.The enclosed workout schedule offers a mix and match approach from one to three routines matched up daily over 4 weeks with one day off a week. 10 min a day for min results, 2 routines (20 min) for improved results, and 3 routines (30 min) for max results. Good for 10 minutes
I have been regularly exercising for over 30 years. I must say that Horton's workouts are not for beginners. You really have to know what you're doing, and how to modify the workouts for your particular body type, injuries, etc.As a working mom, there are some days that I cannot get to the gym, or devote more than a half hour tops for working out. I bought this system to supplement my workout routine.If I only have 10 minutes, I do the 10 minute cardio or the yoga flex or lower body. But 10 minutes is actually 12 or 13, as the clock stops between each move. It also takes a long time to switch back and forth between CDs, which is frustrating.If I have 30 minutes or so, I do another Beach Body system, such as Yoga Booty Ballet or Kathy Smith. This is because I find their transitions and cueing to be much better, and not as rough on the body.Finally: while I enjoy the Beach Body programs, I do find their infomercials, which come at the end...

Expensive Supplement, but it works!
I am about 80 percent done with P90X, and besides only doing half of the first few workouts (hey, they are not easy!), I've stuck to the schedule and haven't missed one workout. I started taking this supplement during my second week of the program. The first thing to know about this recovery drink is that is it true it does not taste all that great but if you take it after your workout when your supposed to, your body will be craving nutrients so badly the taste won't stop you from finishing it.My only reservations about this particular supplement is 1) the price. It's pretty expensive and only lasts a little over 30 days. Not something I'll be able to afford every month. 2) The amount of glutamine is very minimal. I love that they included it in the drink as it really speeds recovery time and helps muscles feel less sore more quickly but the amount is about 1/5 of what a human being needs to feel it's effects. If it's in your budget, I recommend adding 4 to 5 grams...

Tastes Great and is helping me lose weight!
This is a very good recovery drink for after the workout. Yes, it is expensive and there are much less expensive options on amazon if you look. But I still like this drink because I have had many of these other recovery drinks in the past, and this one is the best tasting mix i have had. I actually look forward to it after my workouts. I've been struggling to get through these workouts but so far I have lost more weight in the last month than I have in years, so I'm pretty happy. The only other supplement I take is something they call the which I started taking around the same time as I started p90x. Definitely helps to take some kind of metabolism booster when doing these workouts, the weight has been coming off a lot faster!
