Good to ship to elderly relatives
I live in California and have an elderly Aunt in Mississippi. She does not drive and has to depend on others for trips to the grocery store. The prices for things like Oatmeal may not always be competitive with places like Walmart or Costco, but ordering grocery items through amazon.com is a great way for me to help out my Aunt. I just talked to her on the phone while she dictated her shopping list. Thank you for this service, amazon.com! Top to learn more
May be able to find cheaper but a great deal non the less
I needed some more oatmeal for breakfast and this hit the spot. I myself need more than just one packet and will typically use a plain and another flavor to use up the plain oatmeal. I don't know anyone that wants to eat plain oatmeal but that is my solution for the packs rather than throwing them away. Several people complain of the price but not having to deal with going to the store for it and the taxes of it more than makes up for any differences. Top to learn more

I cannot say enough good things about this stuff
I first heard about steel cut oats on the Oprah show about its health benefits. First of all I DO NOT like regular oatmeal like you buy in the grocery store. I don't like the slimy texture. But I figured I'd try steel cut oats and I'm glad I did. They are delicous and very good for you! The warm nutty aroma when they are cooking is very appetizing. I add a little bit of sugar or splenda and some cinnimon, it tastes fantastic! I also sometimes skip the cinnimon and add a tablespoon of granola and/or some dried berries. Excellent healthy breakfast. Normally these take about 30 minutes to cook on the stovetop. I found a way to cut the cooking time in half. Take 1/3 cup of oats, and 1 1/3 cup of water and put it in a large microwavable bowl. Cook in the microwave on High for 5 minutes, stir, then another 5 minutes, then stir again, and then cook about another 2-3 minutes until the texture is just the way you like it. For those of you who are asking...

The best oatmeal available in the U.S.A.
If you dislike oatmeal made from rolled oats, try this product. You will like it. If you like oatmeal made from rolled oats, try this product. You will LOVE it. You must cook this oatmeal for half an hour, so put it on before your shower. You can eat it plain if you make it thin, or you can add cream, half-and-half, whole milk, or 2% milk to thin it a bit. I also like it with a dollop of plain yogurt. Sweeten it with brown sugar or raw sugar, or just add dried fruit (dates and figs are my favorites - dried cherries are good also). Goes well also with a sprinkle of walnut pieces. But here is the best way to eat it -- better than dessert: Sweeten cooked oatmeal slightly with a modest amount of brown sugar, add just enough half-and-half to wet it thoroughly, and then add a healthy serving of fresh blueberries. Now THAT is some breakfast.

"Al Dente" Oatmeal
Steel cut oatmeal has a grainy, hearty texture that's more like al dente pasta than mush. American grown varieties often have a gelatinous texture between the grains. The Irish grown oatmeal is firm and nutty through and through. My electric range cooks the oatmeal in about 25 minutes. I use a straight-edged spatula to keep the oatmeal from sticking to the bottom of the pan. Avoid over-stirring to keep that nice, firm texture. More good news: Steel-cut oatmeal, like chili or stew, is better on the second day. Pour your leftovers into a bowl, lay plastic film directly on the surface of the oatmeal, and store in the 'fridge. Reheat in the microwave with a spoonful of water for a minute or two. Genuine maple syrup is the best sweetener for oatmeal, in my opinion. Add diced apples or raisins or bananas, with a little milk, and you've got yourself a bowlful of breakfast!

McCann’s steel cut Irish oatmeal is the original and best oatmeal in the world. This is the classic Irish oatmeal--nothing added and nothing taken away--just pure goodness. If you are looking for great tasting oats, then go no further than McCann's steel cut Irish oatmeal. Imagine taking the best oats, removing the outer husk, and then cutting them into smaller pieces--that is all they do! That is why McCann's steel cut oats are so rich and wholesome, with their unique, nutty taste--there is no processing, no addition, and nothing artificial. The cut grain of steel cut oats means they take longer to cook than rolled oats--but the distinctive texture makes it all worthwhile! This is sold in a pack of four 28-ounce tins.
About McCann’s The story of McCann's dates back to 1800 when John McCann built a mill at Beamond, on the east coast of Ireland. John McCann's Irish oatmeal secured many prizes for its excellent quality over the years and the company continued to grow steadily. A piece of McCann’s history was created in August 2005 when for the first time production of the trademark 28-ounce tin of steel cut oats exceeded 1 million tins for a twelve month period.
McCann’s has been making the classic oatmeal product for more than 150 years - and it has changed very little in that time--it is still the same real thing. McCann’s is best known for its classic steel cut oats packed in the iconic 28-ounce tin. However, there are many other tasty products available--quick cooking oatmeal, instant oatmeal, and oat bran.
All McCann’s products are non-GMO. They are specially grown by local farmers--there are no GMO oat crops grown in Ireland.

Scots know how to blow their oats to bits
These are a great whole grain for healthy eating, and they taste great too. My wife likes them with butter and salt but I like 'em sweet with [whatever]. Usually just brown sugar but you could be use a more healthy sweetener or some berries. I find these oats more pleasing than "Irish steel-cut" styles where the whole oat is just cut in two. These oats are like blasted to bits with a bomb.. ok I think stone ground.. but I like to exaggerate that angry Scots blew them to bits. We subscribed to this product, we like it so well. My favorite oatmeal
I don't cook my Scottish oatmeal but stir it into a bowl of unsweetened yogurt, agave syrup, chopped almonds and a spoonful of ground flax seed. It makes for a wonderfully healthy, high protein, high fiber breakfast which keeps me full for hours and hours and full of energy. My father eats raw oatmeal daily (he's now 93 and still rides a stationary bike fast and steady for an hour a day!) and and I tend to not cook things either, especially oats or veggies. Raw is where it's at..as much as possible anyway. Cooking takes some of the vitamins and fiber out. Delicious and highly recommend! Top to learn more
USDA Organic. The original oatmeal or porridge of ancient Scotland. Oatmeal originated in Scotland centuries ago and was different from our modern rolled oats. A coarse meal was produced by slowly grinding the kernel between two large millstones. Bob's Red Mill Scottish Oatmeal is produced in the same old-fashioned way and contains all the health-giving nutrients of the best quality oats from which it was ground - the germ, the oil and the fiber. Certified Organic by QAI. You can see our quality. Top to learn more
Yummy porridge, a bit tricky to make
This is delicious, classic Scottish-style porridge, but it took me a few tries to get it right. The microwave method simply doesn't work - you end up with a layer of hardened oats and exploding liquid on top. What is best to do is to use a pan. Boil the water as the package directs (though unless you want it salty, I'd use only a dash of salt as opposed to 1/2 tsp.). When you add the porridge, add it into the simmering water bit by bit, whisking throughly during and after. Then simmer as normal with the lid on. This method solved all my problems with the porridge. It made it fluffy, light and truly edible. No more scraping burnt porridge off the bottom of the pan or rushing to break up gluey lumps. Now, I make a batch of this and simply heat it up with a little milk and cinnamon every morning. Top to learn more

My Breakfast Every Morning...
This variety pack, as well as the fruit version (Lower Sugar Peaches & Cream and Strawberries & Cream) are in my desk. I make a packet every morning when I get to work. It takes about 15 seconds to prepare (we have a hot water dispenser so I don't need the microwave). It's the perfect breakfast in this respect. This stuff is great. Half the sugar of the "normal" version, but still tasty. My favorite of the three is the Apples and Cinnamon, but I don't dislike any of them. The important thing is that they taste just like I remember the "normal" variety tasting, although it's been years since I've had those. If I did a side-by-side comparison, I don't know how it would turn out. Anyway, it's good. Get it. :) Top to learn more

"Weight Control" may be the better option
After comparing the weight control version at the store to the lower sugar variety, in many ways you are better off eating the weight control variety. For the Maple and Brown sugar variety and the Cinnamon Sugar variety there is actually less sugar in the weight control formula. Another issue I have is when I add the recommended 1/2 cup per packet, it is usually too much water so pour slowly and stir when you are doing. That being said I try to start off every day with 2 packets of quaker instant oatmeal, with cut up apples in it! It is quick easy and good for you! Top to learn more

Love These
I love these individual oatmeal cups. I found them years ago at Sam's and they quit selling them, then I sound them at Big Lots, they quit selling them, then found them at Target. Very expensive if you buy them individually. I'm trilled to get an entire case at a time. They can go anywhere, and you just need water, a microwave and a spoon. I don't know why Quaker doesn't have this flavor in packets. Top to learn more

Satisfy your hunger and your desire to drop a few pounds
Through the work week, breakfast is perfunctory with oatmeal just another option among cereal bars and yogurt. We've stocked various brands of instant oatmeal but Quaker Oatmeal Express best balances our desires for tasty and healthy. Our sons - ages 6 and 4 - enjoy the different flavors. My wife likes the individual cups, which make clean-up a breeze. Quaker Oatmeal Express is office-friendly, too. You can prepare the oatmeal with hot water or a microwave. Either way, you've got a no-mess breakfast in less than two minutes. Again, the individual cups are great for a portable option much healthier than anything you'll find on a fast food drive-thru menu. We've purchased three Quaker Oatmeal Express flavors, ,... Great for a Quick and Easy Breakfast
This is a very quick and easy way to eat a relatively healthy and delicious breakfast. You just fill water in the cup, put it in the microwave, and then after a minute breakfast is ready. I like the golden brown sugar flavor the most, but their other flavors are just as good. My local grocery stores don't carry this particular flavor in the instant cups, so I'm glad Amazon has it available in bulk for me to buy. Top to learn more

Weight loss aide
I am trying to take off a few pounds, and have started to keep a food log, which requires that I have know how many calories are in each meal and plan my meals in advance. One of my standbys for breakfast is Quaker Instant Oatmeal, which I eat five mornings a week. Breakfast consists of two packets of Quaker Instant Oatmeal, which is 320 calories and a good percentage of my carb intake for the day. Add a little soy milk and some real maple syrup, and this keeps me satisfied until lunchtime at about 400 calories. The oatmeal is has a benefit to cholesterol management, as well providing some carbs for fuel for the morning. I've tried several brands, and the Quaker has always had a more substantial "feel" to it, sort of like "real" oatmeal. The budget brands have always had a tendency to "clump up" onme, for some reason. I don't just recommend it, I like the stuff! Also check out the high fiber version:... Top to learn more
