Now, this is the way to buy movies, but beware, there is a lot of duplication of titles in the various volumes!
I have been collecting Hallmark Hall of Fame movies & some other Hallmark movies lately. What attracted my attention was the cheap price! This is four movies - quite different in genrae, but all good movies. Thicker than Water is a modern-day western in which a city girl finds what could be her half-sister that her father did not know exited when he died. There is a land-squabble with a neighbor over water rights & the fate of a group of wild horses. The Colt is a few-days on the battlefield of the Civil War. Ordinary Miracles is a city-story in which a teenager is brought to the court by foster parents because she has gotten in some trouble, small thefts are blamed on her. The court has no place to send her except juvenile jail. The judge decides to take the girl into her own home & finds the girl's father & hires him to do some landscaping on her property. Fielder's Choice, I have not viewed yet. It looks like an 8 year old autistic boy is baby-sat by his uncle Chad Lowe,...

Sure, the ending is predictable, but it is fun getting there
Here we have the age-old theme of a marriage of convenience, and we all know what happens to those in most fictional settings. But the twists and turns this story takes along the way make it an entertaining journey. The characters are colorful and interesting, from the stereotypical Jewish mother, to the outspoken housekeeper that befriends Leah. It is fun to see Leah find herself as she moves away from the Orthodox community, but that in and of itself may present a problem for some viewers. The idea that she has to compromise the teachings of her faith to find happiness may not set well with everyone, though her own mother does appear to eventually come to terms with it. But the story isn't all smooth sailing. The handsome young doctor marries his sister-in-law because otherwise he would have had to participate in a ceremony that would have denied the existence of his brother, whom he had loved deeply as a child, but hadn't found common ground with as an adult before he died...

Product Description

A handsome Washington, D.C. doctor and a young New York woman fall in love at an unusual time...after they get married. Leah Lever is married to an Orthodox rabbi, Benjamin Lever, whose brother, Jake is a successful cardiologist and a non-practicing Jew. Jake is stunned when Benjamin dies suddenly, but not as stunned as when he is told that, under an ancient Jewish Law, he is expected to marry the childless Leah to carry on Benjamin's name. The only alternative is to go through a ceremony where Jake must deny his brother's existence. For Jake, that's unthinkable, so impulsively he suggests to Leah that they get married and maintain a secretly platonic relationship. Eager to pursue her own dreams, Leah gladly accepts. Their oversimplified plan to live separate lives under the same roof proves challenging when Leah's suspicious mother shows up unexpectedly. The harder they try to disguise their "pretend" marriage, the more their appreciation for each other's worlds grows - and out of understanding, a real love develops. Loving Leah is a heart-warming story with moments of gently humor. Starring Lauren Ambrose, Adam Kaufman, Susie Essman, Ricki Lake, and Mercedes Ruehl. Top to learn more

Interesting and educational
This movie demonstrated, in a very interesting and well-acted film, the unusual custom, amoung orthodox Jews, of marriage between a man and the widow of his brother, in order to keep the name and family going. Being Hallmark, it was a little sappy, but quite enjoyable as the "couple" out of mutual respect, learn to really care about each other and see their lives differently as a result of this unusual arrangement. I would love to buy this DVD, but the price is much too exhorbitant for a single movie.

Romance with a bit of culture
I liked this movie because it gave a "bird's-eye" view of culture. Few fiction writers give insight into the culture and delves into relationships of the Orthodox Jewish faith, except for the movie "A Stranger Among Us" and Faye Kellerman's fictional characters, Rina Lazurus and Peter Decker. It is rare that storylines deal with the culture (woman with shaved hair, "sheitel" headcovering) This movie mildly mentions a few areas which aroused curiosity as to the reason behind some of the customs. The movie is refreshing, not long, but has a balanced amount of romance and thought-provoking concepts and culture that makes it pleasantly worthwhile viewing. It is a well-done Hallmark movie.

beautiful movie, wonderfully acted
I turned this movie on by accident (when it played on network T.V.) and could not turn it off. It was the most captivating Hallmark Hall of Fame movie I've ever seen. It has a fantastic cast which includes John Corbett, Sam Elliott, and Karen Allen, all veteran actors who are at the top of their game here. The movie seems to center on the imposing grim reality of the sickness of a young girl who is doing her best to survive a life threatening illness. She has no hair or energy but she remains positive throughout her experience but the true magic lies with those around her. This is a film about how people come together in times of hardship and learn to heal themselves while providing comfort & joy to those around them. Friends mend a rift in their relationship after years of not speaking. A girl from the city with a tough life learns to appreciate what blessings she has. The highlight of this story though goes to Sam Elliott & his wife Karen Allen ( I forgot their characters names)...

Superb holiday movie!!
I have to agree with the previous reviewer. This is a great holiday movie with a superb theme and ever better acting/storyline that you rarely see on broadcast TV anymore. My only addition, even though I this Amazon does a great job with prices - this movie is available from the Hallmark Hall of Fame website for $20.

Best show I've Seen in a Long Time
I watched this film at the suggestions of a friend...Had to watch it again the very next night and have seen it several times since. It's so nice to watch a film where people are acutally nice to each other and there is no offensive language or elicit scenes. Just recently learned of some friends in a very similar situation and recommended the film to them to help work throught the emotions they are having. Livvy, a young and educated woman finds herself pregnant shortly following the death of her mother. The father of her baby leaves the scene and Livvy's father insists that she will not have a child out of wedlock and so arranges her marriage to a lonely farmer in a very rural area of Colrado. Ray (the farmer) is shy and reserved, but was brought up with high moral values and treats Livvy like she is something special. The rest of the movie develops the story of how Ray and Livvy get acquainted and eventually fall in love, even though that was not Livvy's original...

Not a Keri Russell fan, but still loved the movie!
This movie was great! The story was beautiful, and interesting--not cheesy or hokey, like the Love's Enduring Promise series. No cheesy lines at all, or fake loving gazes. The story is about an educated woman who finds herself pregnant and unwed during WWII. Her father arranges a marriage for her to someone she has never met, in a place she has never been. Skeet Ulrich--who I never really thought of as more than the cute guy from The Craft--was super moving as the husband who loves her from the very moment he lays eyes on her. He treats her like GOLD! Then there is a subplot involving friends from a Japanese internment camp--which really adds to the story. Check it out. Its a great movie!

A Wonderful and Unique Love story
I saw this movie at a (small) girls camp. Of course, we all fell deeply in love with Ray by the end of the movie. This is not only a beautiful and unique love story, different from your typical Pride and Prejudice type romance (don't get me wrong--Pride and Prejudice is one of my absolute favorite stories of all time, this story is just different in a very good way) but there are many other lessons, not just those of ture love and happily ever after. Some of the lessons in this film might be: acceptance of others, acceptance of self, forgiveness, and (of course) that you don't have to be similar to a person to love them--you can love anyone, if you want to. I'm not sure I would like to show this movie to very young children, although there is no bad language or suggestive scenes, etc. There are some things parents wouldn't want very young children to see or that they wouldn't understand, such as (*SPOILERS*) the Japanese Internment is discussed in some...

A Good Family Film With a Positive Message
Based on the novel by Luanne Rice, this positive family film deals with some hard issues: abortion, childhood disability, single parenting, grieving the death of a spouse and father, domestic violence, and substance abuse. That doesn't sound like a great mix for family entertainment, but although realistic, it is tastefully done. It is also is completely clean without swearing and doesn't dwell on the unhappy scenes. It has some good messages with a happy ending, and all the loose ends are nicely resolved. Probably the main theme of the story is the value of human life, but also that when you truly love someone you are willing to give of yourself. Dianne Parker (Kimberly Williams) and Mark McCune (Eric Close) marry and are expecting their first child. When they find out that their unborn child will be severely disabled, Mark urges Dianne to have an abortion. She refuses and Mark abandons the family leaving her to be a single parent. Mark's brother, David (Campbell Scott), is a...

Great Movie, Filled with Unconditional Love!
This is a wonderful movie. It is full of the message of unconditional love. The love that is shown to the medically fragile girl in this picture is fun to watch because it is so sincere and pure. The movie gives one a feeling that no matter how bad it gets in one's life, there is always hope to see the situation in a better more positive light. This is a story about love, life and relationships. For once, a movie that doesn't have to have guns and violence to make an impact. I admire Hallmark for that. This was a great family movie. As the father of a severely autistic child, I appreciate the kindness toward a special child shown in this film, a kindness that should be emulated across the globe. Campbell Scott puts in a great acting performance in this one!Jeffrey McAndrewauthor of "Our Brown-Eyed Boy"

Tissues required!
This was one of the best movies I've ever seen! Betty White is an incredibly talented woman. Whether a comedy or drama, she always brings it home and never disappoints. I went through a dozen tissues while watching this wonderful story that was so well written and well acted. I'm going to buy it for my Mom for Valentines Day. However, I found it to be cheaper on the Hallmark website than on Amazon. If you like the Notebook, you will love this movie! Buy it, own it, watch it, treasure it! Enjoy but don't forget the tissues!

The Lost Valentine
Hallmark has produced magnificent TV shows over the years, but this has to be one of the all time best. It was magnificent, touching, patriotic, and a 'national treasure'. I hope Hallmark releases it on TV again - but earlier than 9:00 EST or PST so the younger generation can watch it. It was on a Sunday night. Betty White was just superb. An Emmy for sure. It should be sold in Hallmark stores and through other outlets.

His teacher, Mike Kersjes (played by John Corbett of Sex and the City and My Big Fat Greek Wedding fame) is inspired by Ben’s dreams to try to get his class of special education students accepted into NASA’s Space Camp. The role came to ten Brink’s attention through the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles, which keeps a file of actors with Down syndrome.
