I bought the Yard Butler plugger and was extremely disappointed in the difficulty of removing the plugs, even though the soil where I live is sandy. After reading the reviews of this ProPlugger, I ordered it from Amazon. There are cocopeat (coco coir) soil conditioner disks to drop in the holes where you remove weeds, so I visited [...].I was surprised to see that there were two propluggers at proplugger.com: one removes 2" deep plugs (ProPlugger 200), and the other pulls 3.25" deep plugs (ProPlugger 325. They are both $49.95, but when ordered from proplugger.com, include Free Shipping! This saves $6.99 at current shipping rates (or 14%).Tip of the hat to Amazon, I was able to log back into my account and cancel the order. Works as advertised!
I had a major problem with grass growth along the border of a large garden area. However, my grass in 95% of my other lawn areas was in perfect condition. I was reading through options on repairing this area and I stumbled on to the Proplugger and decided to purchase it. The Proplugger is a simple tool that turns your great grass areas into a sod farm. It works as advertised! It is very simple to use and the sod samples fall right out with just a little application of gravity. You have to remember to keep the moisture going on both your transplants and your donor areas to encourage growth and repair of the donor area. I used several of the cocoa disks and they work great. After I ran out of the disks, I made my own soil filler to fill the holes in donor areas. All in all, the Proplugger is a great product!

Great plugger for fixing lawn problems
I live in a neighborhood where most of the lawns are great. June bugs and grubs took mine out of that category. But this tool is great to let me take plugs of good St. Augustine grass and plug them where the turf is weaker. I've done plugs manually before, and this makes the whole process so much simpler. Okay, but there's better out there.
We used this plugger to plug our front lawn with Zenith Zoysia about 3 years ago. It does work (and our lawn looks awesome now) but it is a bear to use. We've got serious red clay in this area so it took some real muscle to punch the plugs and then we frequently had to beat the plugs out with a hammer. Now we're getting ready to plug our back yard and have found a great new plugger. Instead of a square hole, this one is round so that it sinks into the ground easily and then the plugs don't get stuck - in fact they stack up inside the shaft so that you just dump them out after you get about 12 (so it goes a lot faster). Plus, the site we bought our plugger on also sells little compressed disks of organic peat stuff that swell to fill the holes where you're pulling the plugs from - way easier than filling each hole with loose soil and better for the lawn than filling the holes with clay plugs. This tool just works!
As soon as I got this tool I knew that I was going to have to sharpen it for it to cut plugs out of my St. Augustine grass. Perhaps my only small nit is that it doesn't come sharpened already, or else the coating that is on it is too thick and dulls the edges. Anyway, a few minutes with the file and it very quickly cuts through even thick grass to cut out perfect plugs. This is a great tool and will save me much effort with less effective sod transplanting methods. Top to learn more

More than just a "Sod-Cutter", it's a serious hand tool.
The price kind of scared me off until I actually held one in my hand. I thought it was probably just an over-priced garden hand trowel. It isn't. It's very well made and feels comfortable and well balanced in the hand. I use mine to fix water leaks. Once we've uncovered a leak with a backhoe and shovels, we use this tool to clean up around the broken area to make a repair. It gets right in to the tough spots and disturbs just as little ground support as possible. It's strong enough to dig in clay and rock. The first time we used it there were a few comments from the crew about the tool and what it cost. But it worked flawlessly and didn't get broken or all bent out of shape as other small hand tools do. Now it's one of those "go to" tools when preparing to make repairs. After using it on two jobs, one of the other guys decided to get one for his tool box just to make sure we always have one on the job. And it's made in the USA, if that matters. Top to learn more

Great for metal detecting!
This tool was recommended to me by a friend who has been using a metal detector for a few years. It's a sturdy tool, with a comfortable grip. It will cut through even the thickest sod with no problems, and it's shape gives you good leverage for prying out your plug or extra dirt. The tool also has a smooth finish to it which makes it easy to clean as the dirt tends to not stick to it. If you're looking for a digging tool, this is definitely the one to get! Top to learn more
