Best yeast
My daughter-in-law gave me a 2 pound bag of Red Star yeast last Christmas and it has lasted me 8 months, baking a loaf of bread almost everyday. I take a small amount and put it in one of my old 4 ounce yeast jars and freeze the rest and it has kept very well. In my opinion Red Star is the best yeast out there, but not always available at my supermarket and you can't beat the price, 2 pounds for $14.88 sure beats $8.99 for a 4 ounce jar at the supermarket.

Stop buying yeast from stores
If you bake on a regular basis, you also know that the tiny packets most grocery stores sell their yeast in are pretty expensive (75c per use at least). This bag has the same product without the extraneous packaging and will serve you for months while bringing your yeast cost per bread/cake down to pennies (10-15x cheaper :)). Please note that yeast needs to be kept in the fridge once it is open.

Baker's yeast
As far as I am concerned, bulk is the only way to buy yeast. These little packets and tiny jars are ridiculously priced for what you are getting, and beside that most people arent using enough yeast in their baking either. I use yeast for everything from bread to pancakes to corn bread. I use more than most people do. Unlike baking powder and soda, yeast is actually nutritional (as long as it is cooked, never eat it uncooked). Yeast adds a nice flavor and aroma not found in these 'powders'. I don't know where some of the common practices for using yeast came from, but I've found that you don't need to let things rise two or three times unless, that is, you are looking for a way to pass time. Also like in pancakes, just mix up the batter and throw it on the griddle, it rises for me. But don't be so stingy with the yeast. Extremely Good Yeast For Baking Bread or Making Steamed Buns
Unlike other brands, this product is almost tasteless and odorless. It doesn't add after taste to your baked goods. It also rise pretty quickly and make excellent tasty breads and steamed buns. It's much more economical to buy the 1 pound package when you do a lot of baking as compared to the little packets that you get at the supermarket. Apparently, I cannot find the 1 pound package of Fleischmanns yeast at any of my local supermarket or store. Luckily Amazon.com offers this product and I'm very grateful of this.Next time when I run out, I will buy 4 pounds of this product here at Amazon.com and keep the ones that I don't need for immediate use in the freezer. Panasonic Rules
You get what you pay for in this world and the Panasonic SD-YD250 is a perfect example. Quiet as a mouse. No jumping around the counter and whining and improperly mixing as a Breadman we purchased (and returned) did. Had another Panasonic for 8 years. Decided to replace it when the pan seal failed and we checked out the cost of a replacemtnt pan (not realizing we could replace just the paddle mechanism/seal.) Thought we could get by on the cheap with the Breadman. Wrong. If you are looking for a rock solid, flexible unit that turns out a perfect loaf time after time (up to 2.5 lbs), this is your bread machine. The automatic yeast dispenser is a great feature, particulary if you use the timer. Spend the [money].

[Between 4 and 4.5 stars]The Panasonic SD-YD250 is pretty much the state of the art in bread machine technology in mid-2003. It's one of the larger units around with a 2.5 lb. loaf capacity. This size will also eat up your counter or cupboard space: you need just under 14" of width and height, and 10" of depth, so keep that in mind when you order.The bread consistency is excellent. It's even pretty good in the "rapid" mode, though the results are a bit better in the standard bake mode so that's what I generally use. Also, the "rapid" mode for whole wheat or multigrain bread is 3 hours (vs. 5 hours standard), so it's not like you can start the machine at the beginning of a meal and expect completed bread before you leave the table. Changed my life!
I am only 23 years old but I have had problems since I started puberty. I've always had a lot of thick discharge, smells, and once I started having sex, lots of infections and pain. This product really works!
I have suffered from horrible yeast and bacterial infections for the past five years. I have tried everything out there that is on the market and have taken every antibiotic available. Nothing has compared to these pills. I noticed a difference after about 5 days of taking these. I feel normal again and that is something I haven't felt in years. The only reason I gave it four stars is because of the cost, but they are well worth it for eliminating my pain and suffering! Machine awesome, get a good recipe book
Don't let the negative reviews here fool you. This bread machine itself is great, and I can't believe how inexpensive! I picked it up for under $40 at Walmart only to see it is now $34 here on Amazon. It makes 1.5 or 2 lb loaves, has a jam setting, a "raisin beep" (signal to add fresh fruit and other ingredients during the second kneading), bake only (like cakes) and dough only (to mix in machine then bake in oven). Also has up to 13 hour delay so you can wake or come home to fresh bread.It's the recipes that come in the booklet that are bad. They all have way too much yeast, which is a classic cause of fallen loaves. I can't imagine how they came up with recipes with so much yeast! To see what I mean, Sunbeam has all their bread machine instruction manuals available online at http://www.sunbeam.com/manualsearch.aspx?PCId=3ANYhoo, I strongly suggest that if you've never made bread by hand before, pick up a good all-inclusive intro to bread machine baking...

Great Machine, Great Price
Not having owned a bread machine before, I did my online research and decided to try a reasonably priced "good-enough tester" machine... Well, I'm VERY glad that I decided to purchase this "more-than-good-enough" model!This particular model is fairly quiet while in operation, beeps after the 1st rest to indicate that it's time to add the nuts/raisins, etc., and beeps after the baking cycle is completed (if the bread is not removed from the machine as soon as it's done, it might lose moisture during the auto keep-warm cycle). Well, I bake them on Thursday morning when the sun already shines, but I think I've been quite healthy so far :D As for the yeast, definitely try to find, buy and use fresh yeast. When you make yeasted dough it usually doesn't matter whether you use melted or softened butter, however, I always use softened butter when making jidáše - their texture (when they're baked) is kind of flaky. Dried yeast will make the jod too, but the taste the dough gets from fresh yeast is irreplaceable. And now, finally, jidáše :D For the leaven pour 130ml lukewarm cream into a bowl, sprinkle with fresh yeast and add 1 tbsp sugar and 1 tbsp flour. Jidáše ( pronunciation here , literally traslated as Judases ) are traditional Easter baked goods made from yeasted buttery dough and they are served drizzled with honey. It seem to come so soon to me :D If you don't know what to bake for this festival, you may try several of my traditional and less traditional recipes :) Every year (I serious - EVERY year) I bake Hot Cross Buns - traditional English Easter buns -... In my country there we often bake an Easter wreath - this yeasted one not so traditional but absolutely delicious. Stir to dissolve yeast completely. You'll feel great and the dough will be awesome :D When I knead it, I punch it many times - I hope it'll help to build muscles on my arms :D Thanks to perfect and intensive kneading you'll have beautiful jidáše with smooth surface after baking and... Now boller, or buns in English is a bit of a national treasure and they come in all different ways, I have the best recipe for classic boller from my nan so I will try to get that up soon.

  Let them know they will get better with practice and before long, they will be making good baked goods and feeling good about their fine accomplishments and themselves.   Just like now, when cash allows folks to exist to buy bread, beer and other stuff. I would start with baking history in a fun way going back to the Egyptians when they were building the pyramids and being paid in bread and beer. To call it bread and water today, makes beer seem inconse1quential and beer is far short of that.   Then some baking terms and vocabulary then on how to doing some baking but not too easy - make them stretch a little. "A kingly offering to Osiris, lord of Djedu, lord of Abedju -- this prayer offering of bread and beer [and on to the first fruits of the flock, of the earth, etc].
