Small, but very happy and healthy trees. Shipped well!
Small little guys, but bigger than some people's descriptions lead me to fear. Yeah, they're not 3ft high, but they have a good amount of leaves on them and were tall and sturdy enough to transplant to bigger containers without problem. No fruit flies or sign of disease or anything. No wilting or sign of declining health. And this product was well-wrapped and shipped. I live in Michigan, and although I received these in August (60's and 70's temperatures), they were wrapped well enough to last through more harsh weather, I'd imagine. The box was well insulated with shredded newspaper and the plants were each independently double-wrapped in paper bags, opposite direction. In fact...... Because I have a community mailbox yet I expected it would be dropped off at the front door (like the usual bigger packages do), I accidentally left it in my mailbox for 2 extra days - No problem!Very satisfied. For those who say it's overpriced and they're...

Better Than Expected!
I was nervous about receiving citrus plants shipped at the end of January, so I read all the reviews and watched the mail every day. I didn't need to worry. To those who complain about a small tree... what do you expect for the cost? Getting a larger tree (2 years old) would cost at least [...] before shipping. I ordered this 3-tree deal and added in an additional meyer lemon. They arrived within 4 days of shipping time, wrapped in shredded newspaper, with a 60-hour warming pack inside the box. The warming pack was still warm when I opened it. Though the weather here is below freezing, my little trees are in beautiful condition. One leaf was bent... I think I can deal with that. Now, it's all up to me. If I let them die because I didn't research how to take care of citrus trees as houseplants, that's my own fault. Larry's Orchids performed splendidly on their end of the deal.UPDATE August 2011:My citrus trees have quadrupled in size and have...

Great plants but they came with parasites.
The plants arrived in relatively healthy condition, very carefully packed. To my disappointment, one of them was infested with aphids. I am using an insecticidal soap that I have found useful (and safe) in the past:.

ARRIVED FINE TRANSPLANTED FINE
I got this and transplanted it and WORRIED I would over water or under water! After a couple of WEEK it SUDDENLY grew like over night. It has no sign of putting any fruit out-however; it is like 2.5 inch diameter trunk-it really got big. BUT I love it-it is a BEAUTIFUL PLANT and I am kind of glad it outgrew a bonsai size I expected it to be. Gorgeous. Healthy. Wish it had come with directions on its cares though. Do not have a clue what to do with it to make it set fruit.

Product Description

A naturally dwarf tree that will only reach 3-feet in containers. Can be pruned to be kept smaller yet. Dwarf Pomegranates will bloom when they are about 1 foot tall. Orange-red trumpet shaped flowers adorn the plant from late summer through fall attracting hummingbirds. 2-inch plus bright red edible fruit follow the flowers. The fruit makes a juicy snack. The taste of this popular fruit is a mix of strawberry and raspberry. Its leaves are dark green, marbled with shades of bronze. Punica granatum 'Nana' need full sun and a well-drained soil mix. In warmer climates can be grown outside, in cooler areas, bring indoors for the winter. Minimum temperature of 40 degrees in the winter. Water once a week during the growing season and fertilize on a monthly basis. Once flowering has begun in late summer, the plant should be watered about 3 times a week to produce lots of flowers and fruit. Its natural compact habit lends itself to windowsill culture or bonsai training. The Dwarf Pomegranate is very popular among people who love bonsai because of its flowering and fruiting qualities. This tree has a naturally twisted trunk that appears to be gnarled and ancient, which is ideal for bonsai. Includes complete, easy to grow, flower and fruit instructions. Our near blooming size Pomegranates are 8-11 inches tall and actively growing in 2.5-inch pots. Top to learn more

A bit smaller than expected, but it survived shipping and is doing well!
I gave this item 4/5 stars only because the description is a bit misleading with the "near blooming size" and 8"-11" tall claim. Mine arrived and was probably half that size. One thing I should note for anyone ordering one: I ordered mine in the dead of winter and it still arrived very safe and healthy. However, it suffered some pretty serious leaf shock and lost 90% of them right after repotting. Don't freak out if this happens to you! Just give it some water and be patient. After the tree acclimates, it starts new growth like crazy and puts out new leaves. (I kept mine in a 8" deep pot and used Miracle Grow organic potting mix... and just have it in my kitchen near, but not directly in front of, a window with morning sun.) It took a few weeks for this to happen! For the price I paid and considering the time of year that I ordered it, this was a good deal for sure and I have a very happy and healthy little tree.

Product Description

Top Hat Blueberry simply has to be seen to be believed. Here is a beautiful, moundshaped, compact shrub that is ideal for containers and small spaces, loaded with so many flowers in spring it looks like a white-flowering heather, followed by hundreds of delicious full-size blueberry fruits that make it doubly decorative. Top Hat is also becoming a favorite of bonsai enthusiasts, since the plant so easily allows itself to be restricted in a bonsai dish and shaped into a decorative bonsai accent, even flowering and fruiting as a bonsai accent. Developed from a breeding program at Michigan State University by one of the country's leading blueberry specialists, plants are cold hardy and easy to grow. Round, firm, flavorful fruits are a dusky blue just like those you find in the stores - perfect for fresh eating, making jam and baking into muffins or pies.

Hardiness Zone: 5-8; hardy to -25 F
Size at Maturity: 2 ft. by 2 ft.
Soil Preference: Acid 4.5 to 5.5 pH

Light Needs: Full sun or partial shade

Blueberries are valued for their ornamental foliage, flowers and berries. Their small bell shaped flowers contrast beautifully with the leathery leaves during the spring and summer and are followed by edible round berries which turn purple when ripe to eat. The plant you will receive is growing in a 2" x 3" growers pot. It is well branched and about 8" tall. Top to learn more

mediocre plants and no info provided
Hirt's is a sorta hands-off 'nursery'. They'll sell you whatever you want to buy from them, whenever you want to buy it. There's none of that pesky 'hey, by the way, blueberries do best when planted in spring or fall, so August might not be the best time to buy...' or 'gee, you're in USDA zone 6, you need to make sure you choose plants that can handle that climate.' No, Hirt's isn't about helping you buy the right plants, they're about selling seeds and plants to people either educated enough or naive enough to not need any guidance. If you know what you're doing, this is good, because it saves you the time and effort of going to a garden center, talking to the employees, weighing what you want against what they have, and so forth. If you don't know what you're doing, you're going to end up with a lot of dead plants.Take, for example, the Top Hat Dwarf Blueberry. Hirt's says in the product information that it's self-fertile, not requiring another plant of a...

Average Mail Order Nursery - Buyer Beware
Hirt's Top Hat Blueberry plant is a semi-dwarf variety, that will grow to about 24 inches wide and high. It will produce a lot of blueberries if the plant thrives and grows. However, this is no forgone conclusion, as blueberries are some of the toughest to grow of any fruiting plants. The main reason is that the plant absolutely requires a soil pH that is very acidic (about 4.5 - 5.5 pH). Of course, the potted soil that the plant arrives in will be acidic soil, but over time, that acidity needs to be maintained if the plant is to continue to grow. This can be done with a soil acidifer, such as soil sulphur. It is best to replant this plant in a large clay pot if you are going to have a patio blueberry plant. The larger the better, as the larger the pot, the more the roots can grow, and the more berries the bush will produce. To pot the plant, repot in 50% peat moss and 50% planting soil. The peat moss will acidify the soil. If you wish to confirm the pH, do so with a pH...

my favorite plant
This plant was about 10" tall when I received it. Six months later and it is almost to my shoulders with leaves that are two feet long. No bananas yet but it is a beautiful, lush plant, that even my husband admires.

Zone 7 (indoor during the winter, outdoor during the summer)...1 year later.
I purchased this almost a year ago to the day because I wanted something to fill a corner of a room, and because I love banana trees (they remind me of home) and wanted one I could grow and keep indoors during the winter months in the mid-atlantic region. I was between this and the tiny dwarf variety, but figured I wanted something that would occupy the biggest possible space without being the size of a full banana tree. It arrived a tiny little plant, and at first I was worried that the container I had gotten for it looked ridiculously over-sized.It grew slowly for the first few months because I tried to grow it using artificial daylight lighting, but then started to pick up a little steam around April and I set it outside from May-September (summer months). I thought it was gonna die outside with the intense heat and sun (I probably should have acclimated it to full sun a little more slowly), but then suddenly it started sprouting leaves at the rate of ~ 1 new bigger...

Arrived fast & healthy, but with broken leaves
The banana plant, along with a Hoya carnosa 'Strawberries and Cream' (rated separately), were ordered together and arrived together just 3 days after ordering, an admirable accomplishment. The only thing that could/should have been done better was in protecting the banana plant's delicate leaves. They were simply suspended in a plastic-foam 'peanuts' that provided very good insulation, but they shifted about in transit resulting in 3 of its 5 leaves to be broken and damaged. I have no doubt that given the plant's overall health otherwise, will recover in a reasonably short amount of time, but is the reason for the 4-star rating. I found the condition acceptable as the plant was ordered for myself, but would not have found it acceptable if the plant was ordered as a gift for someone else. The only other, very minor complaint is that neither plant arrived with a plant tag.In summary, given that both plants were very reasonably priced and arrived quickly and in good-enough...

Wonderful Seedlings
I've been wanting to grow one of these trees for awhile now, but CA does not allow sellers from outside CA to ship trees or seeds in. I do realize that big box stores cary them, but they come grafted and I really don't like grafted trees. I like the joy of growing trees from seeds and cutting starts. My first order of seeds rotted in a few weeks, I contacted the seller and he sent me a new batch, (great customer service). With this new batch I plated half in the soil and half I am cold stratisfying -- I realize these are citrus but a reputable book recomended doing it). Now three weeks later I've got a seedling. I should have more comming too, but if not that is okay. The seller warned me that this variety of citrus is hard to start. I think he is right, but it is not impossible and deffinitly worth the try; yey little tree.Update 12/19/2011 -- I placed most of the seedlings on top of my heater and now 10 of the 15 I ordered have come up. I have since moved them to...

Product Description

Citris Mitis Calamondin "Minature Orange Tree"-Easy to grow. Produces 2" orange which are very tart, similar to a lemon but with milder flavor and a hint of orange. Aside from being an attractive ornamental tree its fruits make excellent preserves and the juice is a great lemon substitute. Mature height is 6' and it may be pruned to a smaller size, great as a Bonsai! A willing indoor grower with bright light. The tree is a heavy producer of fruit and its masses of small white blossoms are intensely fragrant and flowering much of the year. Top to learn more

So far so good
I planted two seeds in one pot with the hopes of them both germinating and then transferring the second seed to another pot. Only got one to come up though so I guess that makes for 50% germination. The one that I have is doing fine so far... I still have three more just in case.

Where Can I buy Dwarf Fruit Trees

The great thing about dwarf fruit trees is that although much smaller, they still give the same size fruit as regular fruit trees. A fine example is dwarf persimmon trees or dwarf apple trees. Dwarf fruit trees make it possible to have your own small tree in any town or landscape environment. Dwarf fruit trees need very little yard space to bloom and produce wonderful fruit. Dwarf fruit trees make it possible to have gorgeous greenery and fresh fruit even on your front patio. The dwarf hamster wheel is one of the most important things you will be buying for your dwarf hamster. Besides beauty and greenery, fruit trees provide you with delicious, healthy fruit that you never have to worry about being chemically sprayed. If you are a novice gardener, or only have a small garden space, then dwarf fruit trees are right for you. You will be surprised to discover that fruit trees come in dwarf sizes, and are really easy to grow. Dwarf fruit trees are very easy to grow.

A dwarf berry shrub will start to generate fruit in close to 3 several years, and the fresh fruit will be complete sized. Dwarf fruit trees are a possibility for room-constrained gardens. Numerous gardens, especially those in town plenty, can be quite modest, but dwarf fresh fruits bushes will always be pleasant, even during the smallest of quite a lot. No matter if you choose to cultivate a floral backyard garden or plant some refreshing natural herbs, you'll learn that tending to the plants is unbelievably fulfilling. You must buy plants and flowers that are very well-suited to your panorama and enviromentally friendly problems. Ensure that the sod kinds an even, flat area, and in case you have any gaps present between sod, pack them with a bit of earth. Make sure you retain the strain of the h2o on very low to ensure the hose does not damage the tender plants and flowers. Plants and flowers that mature in a safe and well-defended backyard garden will be protected from the depredations of wildlife, and have an opportunity to increase as large as is possible. Before laying sod, you must make certain the garden soil is effectively equipped. Dormant shrubs must be planted inside the springtime and after that watered very well right up until they get established. This is usually the amount of time it requires for that sod to advance roots, making it willing to grow seamlessly in place. Involve some perseverance, and very quickly you are going to use a back garden which makes your whole area jealous.

If you’ve ever dreamed of growing your own fruit trees but you don’t have very much outdoor space then don’t worry because there’s a huge range of dwarf fruit trees available to buy online. Of course, there’s more to fruit trees than just apples and if you fancy branching out into producing a wider range of fruit then you can take your pick from any number of dwarf fruit trees. Because they’re supplied on what’s known as a dwarfing root stock, they won’t grow to much more than six feet or so. Second, dwarf fruit trees, including Braeburn, Bramley and Queen Cox have been specially selected for their harvest potential. They have one simple ethos “Gardening for Everyone” and sell everything for from easy to grow veg and flowers to fruit trees including ‘mini orchard’ patio trees. Best of all, unlike some other apple trees, Skyrocket is self-pollinating so you don’t need to have another apple tree growing nearby. For example, you can now grow peaches and apricots in the UK. You can choose from many dwarf fruit trees, including Moorpark Apricot.

A dwarf fruit tree will begin to produce fruit in around 3 years, and the fruit will be full sized. If your garden is small, consider planting one or more dwarf fruit trees. Try planting your plants in flower pots first, then transferring them to your garden once they have had a bit of time to grow. If you decide to grow peas, think about planting them indoors when you first start them off, as opposed to planting them outdoors. Try to plant some larger plants during fall to encourage some strong root development. Keep dormant trees abundantly watered after planting in the early spring. It is also possible to utilize coffee ground or tea to make the soil more acidic for gardenias, rhododendrons and other plants that prefer acidic soil. Most deciduous vines, trees and shrubs look most beautiful in the autumn, when they transform into fiery oranges, vivid reds and glowing yellows. Heather is great for getting bees to stop by at the beginning of spring, as heather plants have nectar available early in the season. No matter how limited your space, a dwarf variety will usually fit in quite nicely. It’s best to keep CO2 levels high for the best growth of your plants. Make sure your plants get as much sun as possible to achieve more vivid colors. With a high level of CO2 plants will grow much better. Working on the ground for long periods of time can be painful on the knees, so a small garden stool can really allow you to work in comfort.
