The Queens of Pop Are Back!
If you are a music listener who loves pop, I highly recommend The Bangles new cd Sweetheart Of The Sun. The sound is warm and organic with The Bangles sharing production credit with Matthew Sweet. The cd is a well balanced mix of rockers, ballads and folky type numbers drenched in the Bangles gorgeous harmonies and hooks a mile wide. The title track is one of the catchiest songs The Bangles have ever recorded, with a tremendous guitar riff and excellent percussion work. I'll Never Be Through With You is a great ballad that is begging to be a hit. Ball N Chain is a driving song sung by Debbi Peterson that has clever kiss off lyrics. The Bangles also do two covers on this record that blow away the originals, Sweet And Tender Romance and Open My Eyes.Pop music seems to have lost respect but The Bangles made a career of jangly guitars, gorgeous harmonies and the luxury of having three talented vocalists. Sweetheart Of The Sun is a fine addition to their...

The one long-time fans knew they had in 'em!
As someone who has listened and felt personal connection to the Bangles since the early 1980's, knew that at heart they are a garage band who equally honor folk, and who was dismayed as I watched their music being "guided" by over-production, once they met success, into something that many knew they had never intended or desired, I feel very gratified by this album. I recommend at least three repeated listens at first, to grasp its richness and depth. All their influences are on parade, and the listener can revel in what really sounds like they are playing for themselves and anyone else who shares their love of 60's and early 70's folk, garage and powerpop. Their self-production, assisted by Matthew Sweet, highlights what has always been their sound at live shows -- Vicki Peterson's hard driving, clear guitar leads on the rockier numbers, chiming Rickenbacker work from Hoffs, and Debbi Peterson's clean and crisp drumming style. Vicki Peterson's lead chops are always...

A triumph - nostalgia plus originality
This album was a delight from beginning to end. I liked EVERY song, which is rare for me and a Bangles album (though I usually like a high percentage of them). Some of these songs will remind you of their previous work; some may remind you of other bands (a Who-like guitar riff opens one track). At the same time, there is good originality, particularly in the lyrics. And the three-part harmonies are GORGEOUS - better than they were in the 80s. I was very pleased with this album and look forward to listening all the way through again, SOON.

Product Description
Susanna Hoffs and sisters Vicki and Debbie Peterson have teamed up for their first album of new material in nearly eight years, Sweetheart of the Sun. The album features the group's inventive incorporation of '60s folk rock, sunny SoCal harmonies and Beatles/Byrds/Beach Boys/Big Star godhead. After the band split in the late 1980s after dominating the charts with hits like "Walk Like An Egyptian" and "Eternal Flame," and officially reformed in 1999 to record "Get The Girl" for the soundtrack of Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.
