This book is unique in drawing from the writings of young Asians -- we hear the voices of more than 80 writers about the challenges facing the region who entered the 'Asia's Challenge 2020' essay contest. On the whole this is a hopeful generation: they were all born after 1978 and they grew up at a time of the highest sustained economic growth the world has ever seen. They also came of age in an era of reforms (notably the China of Deng Xiaoping and Zhu Rongji, but also the 1990s reforms in India and a variety of other trade and economic reform through out Asia).
