Smart little puck, as good as (but different from) Apple TV
This little player, about the size of a hockey puck, is exactly what I was looking for. It's cheap, easy, and fun. I got it to play Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Vimeo, and everything else it does is a pleasant add-on, especially motion-controlled Angry Birds. If you're in the market for a Roku 2, I think you might as well get this high-end model (there are stripped-down versions for less money) since it has a few more capabilities, including a game controller, an ethernet jack, and a USB port for playing external files. The software interface is not slick but everything fast and responsive.UPDATE: I added a star because this unit has proven itself much more stable than it was at launch, due to frequent software updates. Also, the machine now has the HBO Go app, which allows you to stream from HBO on demand from a huge catalog of movies and TV shows. How is the Roku 2 different from the Apple TV (which it resembles, and I also considered)? It's physically similar...

The best streamer on the market!
First I have to say the negative reviews are puzzling to me, because I dont think those buyers understand what they are buying. As you know there is 3 versions, I absolutely recommend you spend the money on the XS (99.95) model, the main reason is because it's the only model with a USB port. Which in short term will allow you connect USB HD and play any movies you may of ripped from your DVD's. I have a 4TB array connected with most of my DVD collection, which is close to 1000 movies.Roku has three type of channels:PublicAppsPrivateThe public channels are the once visible in what is called "Channel Store". Currently there about 300, but channels are added weekly. Looking at fan blogs, there has yet to be a weeks in about 4 months, that at least several channels weren't added. Now channels can fall into three categories, Pay, Free, and Subscription.Pay means you pay onetime fee and you get access to the...

Absolutely LOVE it!
We recently bought a Roku XD box (right before Roku 2 came out) and we absolutely love it. Hundreds of free channels from all over the world. Buy Roku once, and -- as long as you have a TV (even an old one, like ours) and an Internet connection -- you have free television shows and movies... lots of them.See, absolutely anyone can create a channel for Roku and -- as long as they have hosting to meet bandwidth demands -- they can place the channel on Roku, free. (Assuming it meets Roku's quality standards, of course.)As a result, there are all kinds of great niche channels created by enthusiasts for things like surfing, rock climbing, old-time drive-in movies, etc.Lately, we've seen a lot of Christian programming added, which makes Roku attractive for many people who want more faith-friendly programs. Menorah TV is also on Roku. And, BYU-TV just added their channel, which means we can see "Dogs with Jobs" every evening... among other cool shows,...

User-friendly Streaming Video Player
My favorite quote from the slim setup manual: "Step 3 establishes your network connection and bring out your inner geek. You can do it!" Well, setup is about as easy as it could possibly be and there's really nothing geeky about it. Choose your wifi network name and enter the password. No requirement to choose the encryption standard (WEP, WPA etc) or anything more technical than username and password. You will need a computer to create an account at Roku and associate it with your new box.Once setup is complete, driving the user interface via a very straightforward IR remote is intuitive. IR is quite directional and you might want to position the Roku box where you most naturally point the remote. This should be easy because the Roku is remarkably small at just a couple of inches square. I think you could velcro the box to the side of a TV if that was convenient to you.My inner geek is an energy miser! I did my initial testing using a Kill-A-Watt...

I love Roku, but.....
I love Roku and the whole Roku experience. It allowed me to "cut the cable" and save a good bit of money each month. It gives me plenty of programming, most of it free. It's also adding new channels all the time, about 360 or so at the moment.I current own the previous Roku XD 2050x and love it. It's not a perfect product, but it's a darn good one. This review is on my current purchase, the Roku 2 XD. It's not a perfect product either and it's just been released. It's also not quite ready for prime-time, but almost...There are some differences between the XD and the Roku 2 XD. Most are good, but I do have two gripes. The original XD had both a wired connection and wireless available. I use wireless, but wired can be handy. When I first received my original XD, it wouldn't properly connect with my router. So, I hooked it up with an ethernet cable, which allowed it to receive a quick update. This update fixed the problem and I haven't had...

Easy to connect and works great.
Was looking for a wireless streaming player for my Netflix and Amazon Instant Video accounts. This is for the bedroom on my 37" 720p LCD, so I didn't need to spend the extra $$ on the Roku 1080p capable players. In reality, you aren't likely going to get true 1080p video from these streaming players anyway. At any rate, this Roku HD player seemed to fill my need and it definitely does. Easy to link to your existing streaming accounts and Crackle is a free channel with movies and TV episodes, although you do have commercials. Doesn't come with a HDMI cable, but I had a spare on hand. One note on the remote pictured, it's not the one included. The remote that came with this player has the added, dedicated buttons for Netflix, Pandora and Crackle. Other than those additions it's the same as what is pictured. Highly recommended for those who just want a streaming player for under $60, since this is all it does.

Roku HD is my new best friend!
Ordered the Roku HD, have a nice standard definition tv that's in great shape, but only could get whatever the Verizon gods deemed of value. Wanted to be able to stream videos from my Amazon Prime account, and Hulu, on the tv rather than just my laptop.Got the Roku in one day (thank you, Ontrac!). Set up was easy. Went online to complete setup, and was up and running in no time at all. Sound is great, better than the fiber optic service I have. Picture quality is excellent. Best $60 I have ever spent!

This deice literally took 10 minutes to set up. That included the plug in to T.V and wall, and also all of the set up for my Netflix, Pandora, and my Amazon Prime. This device is awesome. Sweet! FYI - remote via amazon lacks 3 shortcut buttons
New to Roku, so far love it. I was debating which version to buy just as LT became available here on Amazon. Sweet! My only complaint (minor) is that the remote is not the 'new' one with 3 shortcut buttons. Roku customer support claims you only get that version if you buy directly from Roku. He also said it's not available at their online store as an accessory. I wonder if that will change in the future? I was a tad sad but then read you can't remap those three buttons; at least for now they are fixed. If it matters to you buy from Roku. It doesn't matter enough to me to return and repurchase, or to potentially pay shipping. I can't compare LT to other versions as this is my first box. So far it's a winner: minima setup, easy online interface, love the channels, including NBC news programs updated each day. I may be joining the cable cutters very soon now!

Review for the Roku LT Streaming Media Player
This is a review of the newest addition to the Roku streaming media player line-up, the Roku LT, of which I was given a unit to test and evaluate by Roku. I am the owner of several versions of Roku players, so I have plenty of experience using these wonderful devices. Included in my stable of Roku players is the original "PICO" player, of which I purchased one of the first two thousand units sold in the US. I also own a 2nd generation XD|S player, as well as a 3rd generation Roku2 XS, the top-of-the-line unit at the time of this writing. I have been very happy with each new Roku player and am happy to have been asked to review the latest addition to their lineup. The Roku2 players are very compact, being about the size and shape of a hockey puck. The LT shares the same new housing and having such a small footprint means not having to worry about finding space for yet another home theater device. The Roku LT will fit just about anywhere. In addition, they use very little...

It's a lot of functionality for a reasonable price but with a few drawbacks
For the most part, the initial reviews here are pretty much accurate, so I'm going to add just a few observations that may be useful to others. Basically, I like the little guy quite a lot and it delivers a lot of value for not a heck of a lot of money. Otherwise:The remote: Unlike some assertions that it uses RF communication (no line of sight necessary), the remote that came with the unit I just set up is ordinary IR. This is a good thing if you plan to use it with most types of universal remotes.Wireless: It's Wireless "N" at 2.4GHz. In my opinion, this is a pretty poor design decision due to the overwhelming crowding of the 2.4G band in many places. 5GHz "N" has been around long enough that the hardware to implement it is marginally, if at all, more costly than the lower frequency band. I suppose their excuse could be that "most people still use 2.4GHz" or "2.4GHz yields stronger signals in typical houses", but if you can't get ANY signal at all due...

Comparing AppleTV to Roku2 XS
I own both the new Apple TV (1080P/2012) model and the Roku2 XS. I found myself doing a side by side comparison of the two products and here are my findings.AppleTVPros: Works out of the box, minimum effort to setup, really easy to use interface + wifi. Can Restream old purchased episodes. Netflix App much cleaner and more superb. Streaming and buffering causes no delays or degradation of picture. AirPlay makes up for a lot of the limited channels (with Mountain Lion the functionality goes up even more). iPad Remote easy to useCons: Limited Channels...needs an open API like Roku to build more channelsRoku2 XSPros: Many Channels available, Cheaper ($10), Free Movie Channels like Crackle, AmazonPrime availability, Vendor neutral. iPad Remote easy to useCons: Missing iTunes integration, Poor quality and buffering (constant downgrading the image quality on NBA League Pass and Netflix). User UI is just bland and could be cleaner. Bugs and...

Great at what it does but perhaps too limited
This is an elegant and easy to use little box. The interface is pretty, setup is dead simple (took less than 10 minutes from start to finish), and it's fairly intuitive to use. The problem comes in that it doesn't serve a great deal of function, at least for me.Apple TV is essentially 3 main functions in one package. iTunes front end, content/channel provider, and wireless display. On the face of it, Apple TV is a front end for iTunes and allows you to buy or rent content and view it on the box along with previously purchased content. The usefulness of this is based on where you buy content. If it's not iTunes then you can ignore most of it. All the magic from this perspective is essentially gone for videos and even music doesn't work without iTunes Match. You can alternatively access your media from another computer currently running iTunes, but only the content in iTunes (not a huge issue) and again, only when the computer is on and running (think of it...

A Minor Upgrade to A Useful Product
If you have bought into the Apple iOS ecosystem, the AppleTV is a flexible and useful addition. Snap a picture on your iPhone and it will be in the PhotoStream screen saver on your TV within minutes. Want to play some music from your iPad with the good speakers in your TV room, choose the AppleTV Airplay output and hit play. Have an hilarious YouTube video you want to share, Airplay it on the big screen. Want to play that blockbuster iOS game in the large, there it is screen shared in all its glory. If you haven't gotten into all things Apple, then you have a set top box with a first class Netflix player, HD movies for rent or purchase, and a smattering of other sources. All in an energy efficient, streamlined little box. The one service I miss is Amazon Prime streaming, and I'm not holding my breath waiting for that one. This is my third AppleTV. I've bought each of the generations. The first, I gave to my brother, the second is moving downstairs to the old 720p...

Does what's expected, honest pricing
Just in case someone may feel guilty for not paying a lot more for, basically the same thing, let's look at our top of the line offer, and do a quick comparison. This item supports the HDMI 1.3b standard which is almost as good as it gets (1.3c doesn't add anything special). Any HDMI 1.3 cable can carry up to 10.2 Gbit/s. Hmmm... I suppose the Monster is much better, right? Well... it "guarantees a certified cable bandwidth of 10.2" Okay, but the Monster also supports "x.v.Color, and Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD". It turns out that, all of the above, and more, are part of the HDMI 1.3 specs and they are fully supported by every cable that complies to the standard and can be had for about 90% less in the Mediabridge. The expensive brand presentation simply enumerates the HDMI...

Excellent Choice and Value for Money
Ok so I am a girl and I am not much of a techie but I didn't want to spend $100 on an HDMI cable. I came to Amazon and read a lot of the product reviews.I first purchased the the HDMI cable from ClearAV, it was inexpesive and not the best product. It cost me a little over $4 for the item and S&H. I tested it on my upconverting Panasonic DVD player on 1080i resolution on my 40" 1080p Samsung LCD TV but it had poor signal quality and the cable was not an HDMI version 1.3. So when I played my DVDs the picture would go on and off and so would the sound and there was a flashing line on my screen. Then I thought maybe I need to get another cable but still was not willing to pay $100.I continued to do my research and realized that not all HDMI cables were created equal :( So I decided to try my luck again with the MEDIABRIDGE : "Premium 6ft 1.3b Category 2 Super High Speed HDMI Cable - 1080p - PS3 - Blu-Ray." THIS CABLE IS THE REAL THING : the true HDMI version 1.3b...

Where Can I buy A Roku

Here’s a short list of channel highlights Roku has to offer: Netflix Over 20,000 movies and TV episodes to choose from, at $7. CNET CNET videos right on your TV. Why you want a Roku box. TV Premium subscriber, you can watch baseball games via your Roku. NHL GameCenter Live/NBA Game Time/MLS/MLB Access to your NHL and NBA league pass subscriptions for live games and highlights. MP3tunes Syncs your iTunes library to the cloud, where it can stream to any Roku. HBO Go Unlimited access to more than 1,400 of your favorite HBO shows, including HBO original series like Game of Thrones , as well as movies, sports, and other programming. Angry Birds/Pac Man Available on the Roku 2 XS box.

So if its the same price as Walmart ($98) or cheaper go for it. As for where to buy it, you can get it at Amazon, Roku’s website, Walmart anywhere that you can find it. I cant compare prices cause we bought ours from Walmart (InStore) but I can...

The original Roku XD had this button, but the new Roku 2 XD doesn’t have it. Again, if you want this button, then you have to move up to the higher priced XS. Again, another bad call on the part of Roku in my opinion. I have no desire to play games on my Roku and I especially don’t like “Angry Birds” which is the main selling point of the XS. My other gripe is that the new Roku 2 XD no longer has the “rewind/replay” button. See, absolutely anyone can create a channel for Roku and — as long as they have hosting to meet bandwidth demands — they can place the channel on Roku, free. Overall faster performance especially in menus We recently bought a Roku XD box (right before Roku 2 came out) and we absolutely love it. Hundreds of free channels from all over the world. I love Roku and the whole Roku experience. Buy Roku once, and — as long as you have a TV (even an old one, like ours) and an Internet connection — you have free television shows and movies… lots of them. There are some differences between the XD and the Roku 2 XD. Most are good, but I do have two gripes. When the Roku 2 was first released the problems were worse, but the company has been working to correct it. However, with so many glitches at release, they really should have waited to refine the software before releasing it to the public. Now, the new Roku 2 XD only has a wireless connection. Now, I’ll move on to a quick list of Pros and Cons for the Roku 2 XD. Pros: 1.

At least when he was miserable with Stephanie he wasn’t miserable and alone. He knew he didn’t need an excuse to watch more television, but Stephanie was always so against the idea it felt good to be able to buy one now. he enjoys watching movies and shows over his high-speed internet connection in full 1080p through his subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu Plus, and others. Stephanie always tried to correct his posture when he would slouch.
